Fire Siren
Why have I been hearing the fire siren activated above City Hall?
The use of a fire siren by Cashmere Fire Department serves as a traditional and effective method of alerting firefighters to active fire emergencies within the city.
Here's how they utilize the siren:
-
Activation for Fire Calls: The fire siren is specifically set to activate when a fire-related call is received through 911. This ensures that firefighters are alerted promptly and can respond swiftly to the scene.
-
Exclusion for Medical and Miscellaneous Calls: The siren is not activated for medical emergencies or other miscellaneous 911 calls. This focused use helps prevent unnecessary disruptions to the community for non-fire incidents.
-
Duration of Activation: When the siren is triggered for a fire call, it sounds for approximately 30 seconds. This brief duration serves as a clear signal to both the community and the Cashmere Volunteer Firefighters that there is an active fire situation either within Cashmere or that mutual aid assistance is needed outside city limits.
By maintaining this protocol, Cashmere Fire Department ensures an efficient and organized response to fire emergencies while minimizing unnecessary disturbance to the community for non-fire incidents.
